Budget Recap

The last several months have flown by and I realized my last budget recap post was back in September. If you have visited my blog before, you know that while I love fashion, I have a limited budget, and only allow myself $50/month to spend. Luckily, paying for groceries, gas, etc with my BR rewards card and then paying it off, I rack up the rewards dollars. You'll see that the majority of my wardrobe comes from one of the Gap brands. Here's how I did in October, November and December.

December Ipsy Glam Bag Review

This month really flew by and I can't believe Christmas is over! I'm going to keep things short and sweet today and review my December Ipsy Glam Bag. If you aren't familiar with Ipsy, it's is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription where you get five full or deluxe size samples of a variety of products and a cute makeup bag all for $10! You never know what you’ll get and once again, I've hit the jackpot! Here's what I got in mine this month:

Casual Holiday Sparkle and Firmoo Glasses

I usually wear contact lenses but it's nice to have a pair of fun glasses to wear as an option too. When Firmoo contacted me and offered a pair of prescription eyeglasses at no cost, it was a no brainer. I've never ordered prescription glasses online before but Firmoo  makes shopping for eyeglasses online easy. They offer classic and fashion frames at an affordable cost, many under $40! I uploaded a photo of myself to virtually try on frames. Once I found a pair I loved, I entered my prescription and in less than two weeks, they were delivered to my doorstep.  If you are in the market for new specs, check out Firmoo and give them a try!

Now let's talk about this skirt, last seen here. I wore this over the weekend when the Hubs and I met friends out for drinks. The lounge we were headed to has a casual vibe but dressing during the holidays requires a little sparkle. What to do? I downplayed the skirt with a basic, striped tee and booties. I added the Chloe & Isabel earrings and necklace I won through a giveaway and a layered bracelet.

Holiday Home Tour

Happy Friday! After today, I'm off work for a week! This holiday season snuck up on me! I usually have the majority of our shopping done before Black Friday and have the house decorated the weekend after Thanksgiving. This year I was way behind, but now our home is decorated and the shopping's done so I can relax and enjoy the week with my family and friends!

We've been in this home for 10 years and this will be our last Christmas here. We have made so many memories in this home, I made sure I took plenty of photos that we can enjoy looking back at in the years to come. I'm excited to share my home tour with you!

Poncho Love & Real Mom Street Style Linkup

When I was about 10 years old, my grandparents went on a trip to Spain and brought back a beautiful necklace for me and a poncho for my younger sister. I remember thinking she was so lucky to have such a fun and unique piece of clothing. The poncho trend has come and gone over the years and I'm so happy it's back!

Why is this simple piece of cloth so popular? Ponchos are easy to wear, they go with everything and are one size fits all. They are cozy and more fun than your traditional sweater and are the perfect layering piece for all of your fall and winter looks.
Styling Tip: Cross-body and shoulder bags wont' work with a poncho. Pair it with a clutch or tote instead.

What is Your Favorite Holiday Tradition and Linkup

Happy Monday! Today I'm excited to be part a fun blogger collaboration that Brooke and Erica from Pumps and Push-Ups put together.  The holiday season is a time for special memories and holiday traditions and today we are sharing ours with you!

DIY Candy Cane Wreath

I've always wanted to learn how to knit, it seems like it would be therapeutic. I bought a bunch of yarn ages ago with the intent of taking a class and came across it digging for some holiday decorations in the basement. After pondering what I could make with it, I decided on this candy cane wreath.

Denim & Lace

When you are in a rush and don't know what to wear, one of the easiest pieces you can throw on is a dress.  This denim shirt-dress is another Anthro Black Friday/Birthday score! The lace detail and high/low hem gives this classic piece some fun details. For the winter months I'm wearing it with leggings and boots and there will be so many more styling options when we head into spring and summer.

Don't forget a Daniel Wellington watch is the perfect holiday gift and you can still get a 15% off holiday discount and free worldwide shipping on all products on the Daniel Wellington site through December 31st with the code holiday_dousedinpink. You will also get free gift wrapping with the purchase of an extra strap, and if you place an order before December 19th, you will get it in time for Christmas!

Winter Scenes - Mason Jar DIY

Happy Monday! Did everyone have a great weekend? I know mine went by way too fast. With a three day swim meet, I was not able to get much holiday decorating or shopping done. I did have time for a quick and easy holiday decoration using: mason jars, miniatures from the dollar store, and epsom salt. The total cost to make these was only $5!

Sparkle and Shine

Sparkle and Shine

Chairish.com makes it fun and easy for design lovers to buy and sell vintage furniture and decor to one another and now they have added vintage jewelry pieces to their online marketplace, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, handbags and scarves.

With the holidays approaching, Chairish asked me to create a style-board around accessorizing holiday party wear using pieces from their vintage jewelry collection. They had so many great pieces to choose from but in the end I decided on the Chanel Vintage CC Black and Gold Rim Earrings and a Gold Plated Metal Fringe Necklace as a starting point for my style board.

The earrings and necklace make a statement on their own so I wanted the outfit to be minimalist. I picked a simple black jumpsuit, shrug and cold heels. The sleek black and gold clutch was the finishing touch to sparkle and shine through the holidays.

What are you wearing to holiday parties this season?

Camac Cardigan

Happy Monday! I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving holiday and the Black Friday Shopping weekend! I braved the crowds early on Friday morning after our daughter and her friend talked me into taking them to the mall. Luckily, we were so early, it was less crowded than on a regular weekend and we were back home by late morning.

While the girls were shopping at their stores, I headed into Anthropologie to spend some of my birthday money. Anthro never disappoints and as soon as I saw this cardigan, I knew it would be a perfect addition to my closet. There is nothing better on a fall day than a cozy cardigan, and the pattern mix on the collar and sleeves adds a unique detail. Another bonus was that it was on sale and an additional 25% off.

Don't forget you can still get a 15% off holiday discount and free worldwide shipping on the Daniel Wellington site through December 31st with the code holiday_dousedinpink. These classic watches with interchangeable bands would make the perfect holiday gift. You will also get free gift wrapping with the purchase of an additional band. I love mine and it hasn't left my wrist since it arrived!

Do You Have the Time?

I was recently on the hunt for the perfect classic watch and was thrilled when Daniel Wellington contacted me about a collaboration. Not only was it perfect timing, it was meant to be! I had been eyeing their watches after seeing two of my daughter's Polyvore creations that included the Classic Lady Sheffield watch.

Today I'm recreating the second look by adding my own twist on the outfit and wearing my new Daniel Wellington Classic Lady Sheffield watch.

This ultra thin, minimalist watch sports a leather band which can take you from the office, to a formal event, to relaxing on the weekend. Another plus, the bands are interchangeable, so buy an extra to change up the look. Daniel Wellington is offering Doused In Pink readers 15% off through December 31st using the code holiday_dousedinpink.

November Ipsy Glam Bag Review

Happy Friday!  It's time for my monthly review of the Ipsy Glam Bag. If you aren't familiar with Ipsy, it's is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription where you get five full or deluxe size samples of a variety of products and a cute makeup bag all for $10! You never know what you’ll get and I’ve been lucky to receive a great selection of products almost every month so far. Here's what I got in mine this month:

Plaid Shirt-Dress 3 Ways

Plaid is everywhere right now and when I saw this plaid dress, I knew I had to have it. There is nothing better than a shirt dress to make your morning routine effortless and this plaid number fits the bill. I have been traveling for work every month and needed something that was timeless and that I could style easily several ways.

Fall Floral

The floral trend continues to flourish but instead of summers soft, airy colors, fall's are rich and vibrant. My friend Susan, from Charming Lucy noticed that we had bought similar floral sweaters, so today we are teaming up to show you how we each styled our floral for fall. When Susan sent me her photo, I had to smile - we both picked gingham as a layering piece - great minds think alike!

How are you styling your fall floral? Thanks for stopping by and reading today! Now head on over to Charming Lucy to visit Susan and see how she styled her floral for fall!

Reading Roundup

Keeping up with my fall goal to read at least one book a month, I read four books in September and October. Here's how I reviewed them on Goodreads.

The Perfume Collector takes you back in time, set post WWII, and is about two women whose lives are intertwined. One's journey to make amends with her past and the other's journey to discover her future. The story begins in London in 1955 where Grace Monroe, recently married and thrown into the London elite social scene, receives a letter informing her she has received an inheritance. Thinking it is a mistake, but wanting to get away from the life she has not come accustomed to, Grace goes on a journey to Paris to learn about her benefactor, Eva d’Orsey.  With the help of her attorney, Edward Thissot, she discovers a long abandoned perfume shop, learns about the complex world of concocting perfumes, and a love story that explains her ties with Eva.

The story flashbacks to the 1920’s where you meet Eva who is working as a chambermaid in an upscale hotel catering to the rich. Her involvement with this elite group of people allows her to overcome her poor upbringing and later becomes a legend in the perfume industry.  You are taken back to that time and the scents of the perfumes are described so well you can almost smell them.  You learn about the fascinating world of fragrances and the unusual ways scents are inspired. While the story is a bit predictable, it draws you in as you see both characters coming into their own. This book was a page turner and one of the best that I’ve read this year.

Fall Style Challenge: Week 3 Outfit Recap

The Fall Style Challenge has come to an end and I have to say, I'm so happy I joined! October was a hectic month and outfit planning would have taken a backseat to everything else that was a priority. Alison, from Get Your Pretty On, has a new challenge starting soon that I'm excited to tell you about! You can read about the details at the bottom of this post.

One of the things I liked most about the Fall Style Challenge was that it revolved around a capsule wardrobe. The concept of capsule wardrobes is less is more. I've read many blogger posts on capsule wardrobes and 30x30 challenges and I never thought that I would be able to make it work for me. Well, I was wrong! Here's a recap of the last week of outfits.

November Pin-Spired

Did everyone have a fun Halloween weekend? Despite the 35 degree weather and 40 mile winds, we still had a ton of trick or treaters. Our daughter goes trick or treating with her friends so the last few years the Hubs and I have been home handing out candy. Normally I don't think this is much fun but this year we had a blast. We finished off the night at a neighbor's party and I actually was able to sleep in until 10:30 on Saturday morning! That does not happen often.

Since November has arrived, it's time for another round of Pin-Spired outfits. Linking up with Pinterest Told Me ToMix and Match Family & The Larson LingoAll of my recreations are from pieces I already have in my closet.
