September Style Budget

Hello Fall! I'm ready for sweaters, boots and maybe a caramel apple cider from Starbucks! After evaluating my closet, I found that I had an abundance of basics but nothing too interesting. This month I focused on adding pieces that were unique yet still versatile. Here's where my dollars went in September:

Do you have pieces that are on trend but you had forgotten you had in your closet? I bought this cold shoulder sweater over three years ago at a little boutique a friend had given me a gift certificate for. It had been lost in my sweater pile until I rediscovered it while packing for our move this past spring. I love that the shoulder cutouts are understated and dolman sleeves add some interest to the basic stripes. Now that the weather is cooler, I'm excited to wear it again and am glad I kept it!

Start Your Morning Off Right!

Has your morning routine changed in recent years? I always got up at the same time as my daughter and rushed through the morning. Afternoons and evenings are always busy with dinner, errands, car-pools and practices and then suddenly its 10pm and time for bed. I found that I didn't really have any time for myself. My workouts were slacking and my hobbies became non-existent. I decided that I would train myself to be a morning person and I started getting up at 5am. At first it was so hard to crawl out from the covers and not hit the snooze button, but now I've found that I treasure the peaceful hour and a half where I have the whole house to myself before anyone else gets up! Here is a peak into my morning routine:

I'm always torn at the end of summer with what to wear. It's hard to put away the shorts and tees but fall fashion is calling my name. This week we had weather with temps in the high 70's. Perfect weather to incorporate the best of summer and fall! I picked up this amber striped top at the J.Crew Factory labor day sale. Amber is the ideal shade to add warmth to an outfit. Black lace shorts and booties complete the look that still works for summer but screams fall!

Irresistible Me Curling Wand Review

Do you ever wish you were born with a different hair type? I've always envied women with long and loose waves. I have baby-fine hair with a slight wave to it and always style it the same, either blow dried straight or in the summer, just letting it go. When Irresistible Me contacted me about trying their Sapphire 8 in 1 curling wand, I was excited to try something new!

This top of the line wand comes with eight interchangeable barrels that will create a different type of curl from spiral to bouncy to beach waves. It features tourmaline technology which minimizes heat damage and helps keep your hair healthy and shiny! It heats up in 20 seconds with a variable temperature control up to 450 degrees and has an auto shut off. It also comes with a heat proof storage/travel pouch and heat resistant glove to help minimize burns. It's definitely an investment at the $200 price point but well worth it and with eight barrels, it breaks down to $25 a wand!

One of the things I love about fall is when there is a chill in the air and you can throw on a comfy sweater. This striped number from SheIn was on my fall wishlist and once I saw the heart patches on the elbows, I was sold! The boxy shape is comfy yet it still drapes well. This sweater runs true to size and for reference I'm wearing a small. I styled it for an easy weekend look with destroyed denim and a pair of slides. Perfect for a casual end of summer dinner on the beach!

Reading Roundup & Giveaway!

My summer bucket list included catching up on reading and I've read several fantastic books over the past few months! Today I'm sharing how I reviewed them on Goodreads and I have a giveaway for you too! I'm excited to be partnering with Pauline Gruber, the author of the Girl and the Gargoyle, for an amazing giveaway of her first two books in the Girl and the Raven series. Enter through the rafflecopter at the end of this post!

The Girl on the Train is a thriller and is narrated by the three main characters Rachel, Anna and Megan.

Rachel takes the same train everyday to and from work and everyday the train stops for a signal in the same spot overlooking a cozy suburban street. She takes her mind off her own messed up life by imagining the lives of a couple she sees as the train is stopped at the signal. In her mind she has named them Jason & Jess, she has imagined the jobs they have, their daily routine, and believes they have the perfect life, similar to the one she recently lost. One day she sees something different and it shatters the perfect image she has of them and she is pulled into their real lives.

The story flips back and forth between the main characters and tells a tale of how their lives are woven together as truths are revealed and secrets are exposed. I didn’t see the end coming and this story kept me turning pages until the end.

Falling for Flares

Have you heard of Brandzaffair?  Their mission is to create the ultimate online shopping experience by surrounding customers with their favorite brands all in one place and the best deals that can be had at any given time. In addition to the most current deals, they also provide daily fashion and shopping tips and product reviews. Another part of their mission is to make a positive impact in the world and will donate 2.5% of the net profit from each purchase to a charity selected by the customer! I thought the coolest feature of Brandzaffair is that members are able to connect with their friends by chat or video and shop together online!

Today I'm styling my flare jeans from Express that I purchased through Brandzaffair. Flared jeans have been on my wishlist since they started making a comeback this spring and I'm glad the trend is continuing into fall. Flares are a nice change from skinny jeans and what I love most about them is that they give the illusion of height and longer legs! One thing to remember is that they need to be hemmed for the shoes you will be wearing them with. Flares look best with a heel and combined with the height illusion, you will be standing tall no matter how you style them. Another thing to keep in mind is that with the flared bottom, you'll want to pair them with a more structured top or a top that tucks in to keep the look balanced. Are you swapping your skinnies for flares?

Double Up - Chambray

Welcome to the monthly "How I Style It" linkup!

A chambray shirt is at the top of my list for a wardrobe staple. This classic shirt is comfy, versatile, and can be worn in any season. Tie it over a dress, tuck it into a skirt, wear it with white or colored denim, replace it as a cardigan, layer it under a sweater...the list goes on and on! Today I'm wearing it buttoned and styling it with my scalloped chambray shorts for a denim on denim look. Some dainty jewelry and a pop of leopard were all I needed to complete this easy ensemble to transition into fall.
