Blogging Tips: Photography and Photoshop

Welcome back to our 6th and final week of our blogging tips series! Today's topic is photography and photoshop!

Back before the digital age, I had a Cannon AE1. It was manual and I had to set up the shutter speed, aperture and ISO on my own. It used 35 mm film and I developed my film in a darkroom my Dad set up for me in our basement. Sadly, I do not remember much from the days when manual settings came naturally to me from my photography hobby. Now I use a Cannon Rebel with a 18/55 and 75/300 zoom lenses. I originally bought it to document my daughters events, family photos and such but it's also what I use for my blog photos. Most often I use the timer function and the automatic settings.

Sandal season has officially arrived! My go-to has always been flip flop sandals for the ease of throwing them on as you head out the door. They are also fun and chic at the same time! Flip flops were originally worn by the ancient Egyptians and then the Japanese. The Zori became popular after WWII when American soldiers brought them back to the states. They popped up again in the 60's as a gender neutral summer sandal and have been popular for on the go ever since.

Blogging Tips: Resources for Help

Welcome back to week 5 of our 6 week blogging tips series! This weeks topic is about blogging resources and where to go for blog help.

Doused in Pink has been around for just over two years now, and I can't tell you the number of times I've made mistakes and messed up my blog's template. Thankfully, Blogger Help has come to the rescue most of the time and if they haven't, I've been able to find the answers I need just by doing a google search. One of the great things about the internet is that you can always find a tutorial or answer on how to fix something gone wrong on your blog.

Accessories can update any outfit and take it from basic to killer. I'm always drawn to jewelry with unique and interesting details. It's a great way to distinguish your style and express your creative side.

Blogging Tips: Affiliate Programs

Welcome back to week three of our six week Blogging Tips series! This week our topic is affiliate programs and sponsored posts.

Brands have moved away from traditional advertising and use bloggers more and more to help promote their products and connect with their target audience. Working with brands not only provides you with courtesy products or sometimes a little income, it's a fun way to share the things you love and believe in with your readers. If you are just starting out, you might be thinking that your pageviews are not high enough. Brands are not necessarily looking for a specific number of pageviews. They are more interested in the engagement level of your readers and followers on social media. My pageviews were less than 4000/month the first time I was contacted about a product review. The brand was interested in me because my posts had a high level of engagement.

When I think of tie dye, I think of Grateful Dead concerts and 70's fashion. Growing up, every summer my friends and I would tie dye shirts in the back yard and then have a fashion show for our parents. Even when my daughter was younger, tie dying shirts was a popular activity for school and girl scout projects. This retro trend is making a comeback and going strong this spring. Tie dye has been reinvented and it's not just tees anymore. Pieces are sophisticated and the colors are more muted. You can find these playful prints everywhere from home decor to clothing.

Blogging Tips: Social Media

Welcome back to week three of our six week Blogging Tips series! This week our topic is social media. There are so many social media platforms out there...Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Pinterest, Instagram, Stumbleupon, You Tube, Snap Chat, LinkedIn...the list goes on and on and navigating them can be overwhelming. It's impossible to be on all of these platforms all of the time, however, you do need to be active on some social media outlets to help drive traffic to your blog. Social media is one area that I struggle with and I'm far from an expert. I can tell you what I've learned and my best piece of advice is that instead of spreading yourself thin and trying to be on all social media outlets all of the time, focus on one or two and be really good at those.

Blogging Tips: Wordpress vs. Blogger

Welcome back to week two of our six week blogging tips series! Today we are talking about blogging platforms, Wordpress or Blogger. As I mentioned last week, I started my blog on a whim. While I did look at a comparison between Wordpress and Blogger before I got started, I was not looking at the self-hosted Wordpress platform. I didn't know if I would like blogging or how long it would last. Because I didn't want to invest any money at the time, I chose to start my blog with Blogger. Read on for my reasons below!

What to Wear to a Spring Wedding

Happy Monday Friends! I'm excited to have an extra post for you this week! The weather is finally warming up, flowers are blooming and wedding season is officially here. Today I'm joining Ada from Elegance and Mommyhood, Jennie from A Pocket Full of Polka Dots, Whitney from Whitney a la Mode and Rachel from Garay Treasures to show you how each of us would style a look for a spring wedding.

Spring weddings can range from cocktail to formal and they definitely give you more flexibility on what to wear. What comes to mind is brighter colors, floral prints and lighter, flowy fabrics! All of our friends are married and have kids so weddings are a rare occasion now. In 1998, the year I got married, we attended 10 weddings in addition to ours. It was a busy and fun year! If I was attending a wedding as a guest this spring, this is what I'd wear.
