Fall is a magical time of year. Cooler temperatures mean comfy outfits and cozy home decor. The changing leaves are incredibly pretty, and before you know it, the countdown is on to the holidays! Some might think it’s a little early in the year to start thinking about the holidays, but now is actually a great time to start saving money and planning ahead. It allows you to spread out the cost over several months. One way you can save money is to take a closer look at your food budget. It’s an area where just about all of us spend too much. If you’re hoping to reduce your spending while still enjoying delicious meals throughout the season, here are a few tips.

Meal Plan

One of the easiest ways to make an impact on your food budget is to meal plan. There’s nothing worse than getting home after a long day, looking in the fridge to see what you can make for dinner and realizing you have no food or the right ingredients to make anything. Spend a few minutes every weekend drawing up a meal plan for the week ahead. Create a shopping list and get to the grocery store. Then, each day when you get home, you’ll know what you’re cooking and that you have all of the ingredients to prepare it. If you know you have busier or late days at work, plan quick and easy meals for those days.

Utilize Your Slow Cooker

A slow cooker or crockpot is a game-changer. There are tons of simple and cost-effective recipes online and on Pinterest. It’s so easy to pop in the ingredients in the morning, turn it on, and by the time you get home from work, you have a home-cooked meal ready to enjoy. If you don’t have a slow cooker, check out places like Kohls (you can find Kohls coupons online) or even eBay or Amazon.

Stock Up Your Pantry

Having afully stocked store cupboardcan save you time and money. If you run out of fresh ingredients, you can still prepare meals and don’t need to resort to takeout. When you’re planning a recipe, you’ll already have the herbs, spices, and other essentials in your pantry. Stock it with herbs, spices, and grains like rice, pasta, and quinoa.
