Welcome to the monthly "How I Style It" linkup!
August is here and with back to school around the corner, today's theme for our How I Style It linkup is #patternmixingschool! We would love to see how you mix prints! Link-up with us below and be sure to check out all of your hosts posts for some pattern mixing inspiration!
Do you love the look of mixed prints but are not sure how to get started? There are really no rules anymore when it comes to mixing patterns, and here are some tips that can help you.
Always match colors, rather than the print. For my outfit below, I matched a striped taupe tee with a printed skirt that had a similar color.
Start with a simple print like a stripe, which to me, is a neutral and goes with virtually everything. You can pair it with a floral, plaid, polka dots, animal print and graphics.
A good way to ease into print mixing is to break up your outfit with a solid. I could pair the striped top with a solid color skirt and then add a printed scarf or bag for a more subtle look.
You can also try mixing different textures of the same color scheme and contrast between flowy and structured.
Have fun mixing prints and remember, if it looks good and you are comfortable in it, wear it!
