Sephora Play Review – August 2016

Hey everyone! Did you enjoy the long holiday weekend? Mine was low key and relaxing which was the perfect way to end summer! I even decided to take an extra day off work today so my weekend continues! I’ve had Sephora Play for four months now, and I have to say, I’m loving this subscription box! Nothing has been thrown into a drawer and all of my samples get used up every month. The one thing I have not taken advantage of is the free in store 1:1 tutorial and I need to make it a point to start scheduling it!

If you are not familiar with Sephora Play, it’s a monthly beauty box that delivers deluxe samples to your door step for $10/month. The samples are from the same prestige brands that Sephora carries in the store. Along with the samples, you receive a Play Book with helpful tips, a Play Pass to redeem in store for a free 1:1 beauty tutorial + 50 extra bonus points to your VIB rewards and a collectable makeup bag.

Here’s what I got in my August Play box:

Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow (full size $21). The iridescent pink shade initially looked like it would be too dark on me but once on, I really liked it. It’s highly pigmented, blended easily and had staying power.

Verdict:

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara (full size $22). This mascara was a favorite from a past Ipsy bag and I was so happy to receive one again! It lengthens and gives you volume. Sephora’s how-to-tip suggested saving your mascara brushes, wash them and use them to apply brow gels or separate lashes. Great idea!

Verdict:

Lancome Energie De Vie Smoothing & Glowing Liquid Care Moisturizer (full size $55). I’ve never tried a liquid moisturizer before and was excited to take this for a test drive. It instantly hydrated my skin and gave me a healthy glow without feeling oily or greasy. It’s lightweight and perfect for the hot summer months. I’m curious how moisturizing it would be in the dry and cold winter.

Verdict:

Caudalie Resveratrol Eye Lifting Balm (full size $62). I’ve been a fan of Caudalie products for ages and I was excited to try this eye balm. It absorbs quickly, is hydrating and brightens your eye area. You can also use it around your lips!

Verdict:

Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil (full size $10). I’m loyal to my Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencils but I have to say this one worked almost as well. It’s waterproof and promises to last 12 hours. The taupe shade has a touch of shimmer and is perfect for everyday. It glided on without any tugging or smudging.

Verdict:

Clean Reserve Blonde Rose (full size $90). This month’s perfume sample pick is a mix of rose, jasmine and peony. It’s too much floral for my taste. Sephora’s Fun Fact on this product said that rose scents are known to soothe the nerves. Sadly for me, it gives me an instant headache.

Verdict:

This months Play Book with tips and tricks. Love the poster format!
