Top 5 Fall Outfit Styling Tips

Happy Back to School Season! I don’t know about you, but it feels like summer just got started. Nonetheless, around here, school is officially back in session — and with that, a whole new season for outfit inspiration! Although it’s the first year my daughter won’t be headed back through any classroom doors (Woohoo!) I still love this time of year for planning fall outfits.

Still, the heat outside has been unforgiving. So, as we keep our fingers crossed for colder (slightly colder, please) weather, I’ve put together a cool series of outfits – whether you’re a teacher, work in a business casual office environment, or you’re just ready for some fall flair!

Follow along below to elevate your fall style with layering basics and fun accessories. These outfit styling tips will get you back-to-school ready.

Back to School Styling Tips

Tip #1: Add a hat

Hats are the easiest way to add that “little something” to any one of your favorite fall outfits. Grabbing a graphic baseball cap can tie your outfit together in a casual way. Or, opt for a fun fedora for an aesthetic fall outfit!

Tip #2: Ditch the heels for combats

Let’s admit it, heels can turn any outfit from drab to fab – but what if I told you that combat boots are sitting front and center in my closet this fall? Ever since the 90s, I’ve had my favorite pair. Right now, the Jasper from A.S.98 is my go-to, but I also have my eye on the Lani from Vionic, which is not only affordable but super comfortable. Simple but effective, combat boots can turn any outfit more edgy or more boho, however your style compass sways you toward – making it the perfect shoe for Fall.

Tip #3: Layer it up

Find your staple jacket this Fall and run with it! I’ve been trying to be more outgoing with my outerwear pieces and think I have found a few of my favorites to take me through the season. Jackets are a great way to add personality to an outfit, plus keeps you warm during chilly days and even chillier nights – not that we need that reminder!

Tip #4: Play with patterns

Whether it be your fool-proof florals or stripes, patterns are a sneaky way of making any outfit a bit more interesting this season. Styling outfits around a patterned outfit also makes for effortless looks. Favor the bold? If you know anything about me, you know I am a big proponent of pattern mixing. Grab your favorite two prints with similar color palettes and get going! My pro-tip: camo and stripes? It never disappoints.

Tip #5: Textures for the win

Whether it be leathers, feathers, or some other mystery textile, textures can turn any piece of clothing into a more luxurious, fun looking fit. If you’re one for boho – try fringes and crotchets. More edgy or punk? Opt for faux leather and dare I say, sequins! Truly pull out your fall flair by going out of your comfort zone when creating your next chic and unique fall look.
