9 Places on My Summer Travel Bucket List

Every summer, I have the urge to plan a trip, yet we rarely travel in the summer. I think it would be fun to visit a new city or destination every year, so I’ve been keeping a running list of places I’d love to visit. Some are for their natural beauty, others for the charm, and some just for the food. Here’s what’s on my summer travel bucket list.

Bucket List Travel Places

New York City

I’ve traveled to New York a few times for work. When you travel for business, you rarely get to experience the city. On my last trip, I was able to do some sightseeing and visit the September 11 Memorial and Museum, as well as the top of the Empire State and Chrysler buildings. This city is on my travel bucket list because I’d love to go back to explore the different neighborhoods, see a few Broadway shows, and check out some restaurants.

Savannah, GA

Savannah appears to be the perfect blend of history and charm. The moss-draped trees, cobblestone streets, and beautiful homes are reason enough to go, but I’ve also heard the food scene is worth the trip.

Charleston, SC

Charleston has been on my list forever. I’d love to see Rainbow Row, the French Quarter, and the Battery districts.

Yosemite National Park, CA

Have you visited any of our national parks? I haven’t and need to change that. Yosemite is at the top of national parks on my travel bucket list. I’d love to hike to the Half Dome, see the waterfalls, and giant sequoias.

Yellowstone National Park, WY

Yellowstone is another national park on my travel bucket list. I’d love to see the geysers erupt, check out the hot springs, and of course, spot all of the wildlife (without getting too close)!

Jekyll Island, GA

Jekyll Island seems like a hidden gem with its quiet beaches (Driftwood Beach is at the top of my list) and bike trails. It would be the perfect escape to unplug for a few days.

Mackinac Island, MI

I recall taking the ferry to Mackinac Island as a child, and I’ve always wanted to return as an adult. I love that there are no cars on the island, and it feels like a step back in time.

San Diego, CA

San Diego is another city I traveled to for work at some point, but I didn’t get to explore. It seems to check all the boxes for a travel bucket list: beaches, great food, and perfect weather.

Napa Valley, CA

A wine weekend in Napa sounds like the perfect mix of relaxation and indulgence. I’d love to visit a few vineyards, enjoy long lunches, take in the views, and shop.

These spots all offer something different, and I’m hoping to check at least one of them off my travel bucket list this year. Have you been to any of these destinations? Let me know in the comments!

I'm headed to Savannah next week with Shelly and I cannot wait! It's a fun little city with so much charm. And I'm headed to Charleston in September on a blogger trip – I am sooooo excited about that!
I'd love to visit Mackinac Island some day. You came up with a great list of places to travel and I hope you get to them all!

  2. I love this list! I have been several and a couple I want to go to as well. Savannah and Charleston are similar but both amazing. Yellowstone is incredible and needs at least a week to experience. That is my favorite national park we visited. It's like another planet!

  3. We just went to San Diego around Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time. If you go, definitely take the Coronado Hotel tour…it was so enlightening.

  4. I went to Charleston in the summer and I definitely recommend NOT going in summer. It was so hot and so muggy that we stayed inside our resort/hotel all day and only really ventured out at night. It was really pretty and fun to explore so I do recommend going just maybe more in the fall or early spring? I'd love to see Yosemite and Yellowstone; all of the national parks are pretty high on my list.

  5. I have been to Charleston and Savannah quite a few times because Chris's parents live close to those cities. Both cities are beautiful and charming, but I personally prefer Charleston. I also have been to Sonoma but not Napa. Sonoma is beautiful, and both are close to San Francisco, which is nice. But I am biased towards the central coast not just because of my family living there, but I think that the wineries are better and they are more affordable. We are also headed to NY next week, and I am excited! Anyway! Thank you so much for sharing your bucket list, and I hope that you get to go to all of these places!

  7. I have been to several of these cities and agree you should visit them. I've only been to NYC once…the spring after 9/11. Everyone was still in a bit of shock. My oldest granddaughter was born in Charleston so I'm very familiar with it (must visit King Street and Battery Park along with the open air markets). Savannah is such a gem, too. Our very last family trip (though we didn't know it at the time) was to San Diego. But, my all time favorite place is Mackinac Island. Mike and I used to take a bus trip there for a three day visit. We stayed at the Grand, and it was amazing! I want to go back some day. It would be a fun place for a big blogger meet up!

  8. Oh, boy, can I climb in your suitcase? I would like to go to any of those places. My parents did take us to many of the National Parks so I have been to Yosemite and Yellowstone but heck, I can go again! I have been to Charleston, SC a number of times but only to fly out of Charleston Air Force Base to Panama and vice versa. Never got to see any of the pretty places in the city. Love your picture of Savannah. I remember seeing the same Spanish moss draping trees in Mississippi. Beautiful, haunting. The Napa Valley sounds like a great vacay, too. What a terrific list you have put together. Hope you can visit every single place.

  9. Living on Cloud Nine

I’ve only been to four of these, but I loved every one. I can definitely say the other five on my list also!

  10. These are all such good places to visit! Yellowstone was amazing! We are working on seeing more of the National Parks. They are such treasures!
