When we started planning my daughter’s engagement party, I wanted to include a creative, personal touch that would make the day feel even more special. After a bit of brainstorming, I landed on the perfect DIY engagement party favor idea, one that was both meaningful and easy to put together.
If you’re looking for a way to thank your guests with something they’ll actually want to take home, this favor checks all the boxes: it’s sentimental, simple, and budget-friendly.
A Handmade Gift That Makes the Party Extra Special
The inspiration came from having ChatGPT turn photos of my dog into Disney characters (lol). I uploaded a few of my daughter’s engagement photos into ChatGPT and entered the following prompt. “Turn the attached photos into watercolor paintings. Keep the facial features realistic”. I had one image turned into a watercolor painting using ChatGPT’s image tool, and it turned out so beautifully that I did the same with several more. The soft, romantic feel of the watercolors made them perfect for a keepsake-worthy engagement party favor.

Turning Engagement Photos Into Custom Guest Keepsakes
Once I had the watercolor versions of the photos ready, I uploaded them to Walgreens Photo and searched for photo coasters. They come in a set of 12. Most photo printing services offer this option, and it’s surprisingly affordable, especially if you catch a sale or use a promo code.
For this DIY engagement party favor, I ordered one set of each coaster per image, so each guest would receive a set of four featuring the couple’s custom watercolor artwork.

How I Paired Personalized Coasters with Mini Bottles
To elevate the presentation of the engagement party favor, I paired each set of coasters with a mini bottle of prosecco. I placed the four coasters in a clear cellophane bag, tied the top with blue satin ribbon, and secured it around the bottle neck.

The Easiest Way to Make Your Party Feel More Personal
This DIY engagement party favor idea is a cute way to share a piece of my daughter’s and her fiancé’s story. Something personal, practical, and meaningful that guests definitely won’t leave behind on the table. And, it was simple to pull together, which is always a win in my book.

This same idea also works beyond engagement parties. Turn it into a thoughtful housewarming gift by using photos of the couple’s new home (you can grab exterior shots from real estate listings). Or use baby shower or bridal shower photos to create a set of personalized coasters for the guest of honor. It would also make a lovely anniversary gift, using wedding photos transformed into soft watercolor prints. It’s such a versatile DIY that adds heart to any celebration.
