Baseball jackets are everywhere this fall, and after a few weeks of wearing two of them, I understand why. NYDJ sent me a black faux leather baseball jacket and a tweed version with a denim collar, and they’ve quickly become the first layer I grab on my way out the door. Today I’m sharing how to style a baseball jacket four ways, with two outfits for each one, from casual days to date night to the office.
Why a Baseball Jacket Is So Easy to Wear
Both jackets have a relaxed, oversized fit. I’m wearing a size small and there’s ample room to wear them over sweaters as the weather gets colder, and they still look right over a simple tee. The shape lands somewhere between a bomber and a blazer, sporty enough for a weekend and polished enough for a business casual workday.
The black faux leather jacket honestly doesn’t look or feel faux, and it has flap pockets, button cuffs, and an elastic waist that gives it that classic baseball jacket shape. The tweed baseball jacket is a brown, black, and cream plaid with metallic flecks, plus a denim collar and cuffs. Same silhouette, two completely different moods.

A Casual Faux Leather Jacket Outfit
This is what I’m wearing on the weekend. Black joggers, a white tee, sneakers, and a crossbody bag. The fitted tee and tapered joggers balance the volume of the jacket, and the faux leather keeps joggers from feeling like loungewear. A gold chain and aviators finish it off.
A Date Night Baseball Jacket Outfit
For date night, I paired the faux leather jacket with a printed cami and matching midi skirt I found at a boutique in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, on a weekend away with the Blonde Squad. Kitten heel tall boots and a structured black bag keep the look polished. The jacket adds a little edge to something pretty, and kitten heels mean I’m comfortable even when the evening runs long. If you have a slip skirt or a silky cami already in your closet, this is a great way to carry it into fall.

An Everyday Tweed Jacket Outfit
This is my everyday look. NYDJ Kelsey stovepipe jeans, a brown vest, a belt to define my waist, platform oxfords, and a cozy baseball cap. The denim collar and cuffs tie in the double denim trend nicely. The brown top picks up the tweed, so the whole outfit feels connected without matching.
How to Wear a Baseball Jacket to the Office
I originally planned to wear the tweed jacket with pleated trousers for the office, but mine have a baggy cut and with an oversized jacket, it was too much volume. A mini skirt worked so much better. I paired it with a cream cashmere turtleneck, black tights, brown knee high boots, and a brown suede top handle bag. The shorter skirt shows off your legs and balances the boxy shape on top, and the browns and cream pull everything together.
Tips for Styling an Oversized Baseball Jacket
Balance is everything when you style a baseball jacket that’s slightly oversized. Keep the pieces underneath fitted, like a tee, cami, or turtleneck, and choose slim or straight bottoms. Learning how to style a baseball jacket really comes down to proportion. If your bottoms are wide or full, the whole outfit can feel heavy, which is exactly what happened when I tried pleated trousers. A mini skirt, slim joggers, or straight jeans keeps it looking sharp.
Mix textures, too. Faux leather looks great with something silky, and tweed pairs nicely with denim and cashmere. Folding back the cuffs is an easy way to show a little wrist and make the jacket feel less bulky.
