Plaid Shirt-Dress 3 Ways

Plaid is everywhere right now and when I saw this plaid dress, I knew I had to have it. There is nothing better than a shirt dress to make your morning routine effortless and this plaid number fits the bill. I have been traveling for work every month and needed something that was timeless and that I could style easily several ways.

To keep this first look work appropriate, I styled the dress with booties and a simple statement necklace. When 5:00 hits, this could be dressed up for happy hour or date night by adding a sparkly necklace and heels.

Adding a pullover sweater completely changes up the look. I added tights, booties and a necklace to keep this outfit relaxed yet stylish.

Have you ever worn a dress as a top with a skirt? I always want to get the most out of every piece in my wardrobe so I experimented with layering a skirt over the dress. What do you think of this styling option?

  1. I love the effortlessness of dresses and love seeing more than one way to wear them. Similar to your last outfit, I too wear dresses with skirts to get the most out of my closet. Your plaid shirt dress rocks and you look great in it!! XOXO, Elif

  19. I have yet to wear my dresses as skirts or tops, but this is such a smart idea for making the most out of your closet. Plus, I hate skirts that ride up, and by using a dress that would never happen. Love this plaid option it is totally trending right now and my favourite option is with the snood!!

  21. What a great dress, Jill! I think each way you have styled it looks fantastic on you. In my eyes, you're brave to layer the way you have w/the sweater on top and the skirt on top. I have not felt comfortable in sporting those looks. I think I feel too bulky in layering like that - would love to hear thoughts on the comfort of the layering.

    1. Thanks Carrie! I think the key to layering is comfort. I picked a roomier sweater so it was just like wearing a cardigan. The cut of the skirt made it work but I don't think it would have looked right if it was a pencil or maxi skirt.

  23. That is a great plaid print. I love a good plaid in blue. I love the concept of using a dress for multi-purposes. I've added a sweater, but I have yet to add a skirt. Great styling on all 3 options!
