What to Wear with Denim Bermuda Shorts This Summer

Denim bermuda shorts are everywhere this summer, and for good reason. They give you the ease of shorts with a little more coverage, and they work with more of your wardrobe than you might expect. If you’ve been staring at a pair wondering what to wear with denim bermuda shorts, this post is for you. I pulled together seven outfits, including two from past posts that I keep coming back to, to show just how versatile this one piece really is.

Bermuda shorts come in every wash, finish, and fit you can think of, from polished dark denim to distressed light wash. Mine are a light wash with a raw hem, high-waisted, and hit just above the knee, but the styling principles here work regardless of which version you have. Let’s get into it.

How to Style Denim Bermuda Shorts with a Blazer

This is the combination that surprises people the most, and it’s become one of my favorites. A fitted white tee tucked into the shorts, a black blazer layered over it, a belt to define the waist, and black platform loafers. It reads polished without feeling overdressed, and it works for almost any daytime occasion: lunch, errands, a casual Friday at the office. The blazer is what elevates the whole thing.

Denim Bermuda Shorts Outfit: Peplum Top and Clear Sandals

A navy peplum top with a slim tan belt is one of the prettiest combinations I’ve tried with these shorts. The peplum skims right at the waistband, the belt pulls it together, and the clear slide sandals keep the look light and summery. This one photographs beautifully and feels a little more dressed up.

What to Wear with Denim Bermuda Shorts on a Casual Day

his is the most casual look in the lineup and honestly one of the most fun. A vintage-style graphic tee, mine is a Blondie tee, tucked loosely in the front, slim sneakers, and a cap. It just looks cool. The key is keeping the sneaker low-profile and sleek rather than chunky so the proportions stay balanced with the longer hem.

The Easy Summer Bermuda Shorts Outfit You’ll Wear on Repeat

A sage green linen camp shirt worn open over a white tank, with black flip flops. This is pure summer. The camp collar shirt is one of the biggest trends of the season and it pairs effortlessly with denim bermuda shorts. Wear it open as a layer or button it up. Both work. This is the outfit I’d reach for on a hot afternoon with nowhere specific to be.

Styling Bermuda Shorts with a Cardigan

A lightweight cardigan might not be the first thing you think of with bermuda shorts, but it’s one of the most practical combinations for summer. A brown ribbed cardigan over a lace-trim cami, belted at the waist, with tan cutout sandals. This is the outfit for the overly air-conditioned restaurant or a breezy evening outside. The belt is the detail that makes it feel intentional rather than thrown on.

Denim Bermuda Shorts and Heels: A Classic Combination

This one I shared last summer and it’s still the combination I reach for when I want to feel put together fast. A crisp white button-down, black kitten-heel mules, a belt. The heels add just enough polish to take the shorts somewhere more elevated, and the pointed toe helps visually lengthen the leg, something worth keeping in mind when you’re wearing a longer short. A close second in the casual department, and the one that started it all for me. A swingy tunic, flat slide sandals, a hat and sunglasses.
