Easy Summer Outfit Ideas Already In Your Closet

Do you have days when you stare into your closet and think, “I have nothing to wear”? This always seems to happen to me after I’ve stayed up late, slept a little longer than I should have, and run behind. Or when the morning has gotten away from me. These are also the days I think I have an outfit planned, but once it’s on, it just doesn’t look right, and then I’m scrambling. It’s not a great way to start the day. So with that in mind, I’m sharing seven easy summer outfit ideas (one for each day of the week) you already have in your closet.

How to Style Clothes You Already Have

1 – Blazer, Plain Tee, Shorts

When you’re stumped with what to wear, go back to basics. This outfit works because the blazer adds structure to an otherwise casual combination, making it feel elevated without being overdressed. It also works in a relaxed office environment, so it’s a good option if you’re going from errand to lunch to somewhere that requires a little more polish.

2 – Linen Button-Up & White Pants

Despite the drawback of wrinkling, I love linen in the summer. Linen button-ups are light and airy and pair well with everything from shorts to trousers. Opt for a contrasting color to add more interest to the outfit. An open button-up worn over a white tank works just as well if you want a slightly more casual take on this one.

3 – Sundress, Cardigan, Sneakers

Grab an oversized cardigan to wear over your favorite sundress for that comfort meets style look. And just because you’re wearing a dress doesn’t mean you have to wear heels or sandals. Sneakers give the whole outfit a more relaxed, modern feel and are a lot more comfortable on days when you’re on your feet. A slip dress works especially well here since the relaxed silhouette of the cardigan balances it nicely.

4 – Tank Top, Kimono, Denim Shorts

Light and breezy, kimonos are the perfect summer layer for a day that’s not too hot. They instantly take your basic shorts and tank outfit up a notch with a fun boho vibe. For the most flattering proportions, make sure your kimono length is either longer or shorter than your shorts. A kimono with some color or print means your tank and shorts can stay neutral and the outfit still feels interesting.

5 – Wide Leg Pants, Button-Up, Sandals

Wide-leg pants are the perfect warm-weather pant. I love that at first glance these loose-fitting trousers look like a maxi skirt, and then when you walk, you see the movement from the wide legs and swish factor. Pair them with a button-up, tee, or tank for a breezy look. Stripes are a natural fit here since the pattern adds enough visual interest that you don’t need much else.

6 – Tank Top, Bermuda Shorts, Dress Worn as a Duster

Wearing a shirt dress as a duster adds more interest to your outfit and is a refreshing change from a cardigan or jacket. This combo looks great whether your Bermuda shorts are denim, twill or dressy. Leave it open and belted, or let it hang loose. Either way it reads as intentional.

7 – Tee (Worn Over a Dress), Sandals

One of my favorite tricks to double the wear of my dresses is to transform them into a skirt by layering a t-shirt over it. Simply tie a knot with your tee at the waist. It works especially well with a floral or printed dress since the tee tones it down and makes the whole thing feel more casual and off-duty.

I really like the linen shirt over white pants! That’s probably because I just got a new pair of white jeans! I’ll be trying that soon. Love the tee over the dress, too!
