5 Nighttime Skincare Tips for a Radiant Glow

Nighttime Skincare Tips

Come nighttime, most of us are tired after a long day. We just want to rest as soon as we can, and yes, a good night’s sleep is extremely beneficial! But remember: While you sleep, your skin regenerates and heals from the damaging environments and substances it has been exposed to during the day, like the sun, wind, and dirt.

So if you want to maximize sleep’s healthy benefits and prevent lasting skin damage, sticking to a nighttime skincare routine is a good idea. That said, here are 5 nighttime skincare tips for a more radiant glow come morning!

Do a double cleanse

If you can only do one thing for your skin, just wash it well. Aside from removing bacteria that might lead to breakouts, cleaning your face will give you a better palette for applying products and maximizing their effects.

For better results, do a double cleanse. Get rid of all makeup and dirt first with micellar water or an oil-based cleanser. If you can still see traces of impurities when you wipe your face, repeat the process. Afterward, use a hydrating cleanser that suits your skin type. If you have dry skin, opt for moisturizing cleansers, but if you have oily skin, reach for products with exfoliating properties.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

Do not believe those who tell you to skip your moisturizer at night to allow your skin to “breathe” as you sleep. In fact, the perfect time to moisturize your skin is during the night!

Your skin is more permeable at night since it does not have to protect itself against the environment, so choose a nighttime moisturizer that is heavier in consistency. Also, look for retinoids and antioxidants in your moisturizer to ensure protection and hydration overnight. Pat on an eye cream

The skin around your eyes is more delicate and sensitive than the rest of your face, and constant movement of the eyes can cause the appearance of lines and wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles. Thus, it needs special care and attention.

Even though most eye creams are marketed as anti-aging, you may want to start thinking about applying them as soon as possible. Use eye creams with vitamin C, retinol, and caffeine to boost collagen production, lighten dark circles, increase elasticity, and reduce puffiness around the eyes. Remember to just lightly pat on these products — do not drag the skin on your eye area!

Do not forget your lashes!

Speaking of your eye area, pay attention to your lashes as well! Although they are just tiny strands of hair, they play a significant role in defining your eyes and complementing your facial features. Moreover, they protect your eyes from dirt and impurities, so at the end of the day, they deserve some TLC, too!

A good lash serum can go a long way in not just protecting against breakage, but also in boosting moisture and giving you fuller, longer, and darker-looking lashes. Try applying the serum only along the upper lash line and wait for at least a minute before going to sleep or applying other products near the area.

Keep your lips soft and supple

Just like other parts of your face, your lips also need time to heal. Make sure to always include them in your routine by gently exfoliating them with warm water on a soft cloth and applying lip balm for moisture. You will surely thank yourself when you wake up with the softest, most supple lips ever.

Once you’ve assembled all the products you need, do consider their proper layering — otherwise, you are just wasting them. After washing, start with the lightest products first, like serums, before applying heavier products, like eye creams. More importantly, these tips will not be as effective if you deprive yourself of proper sleep. After all, it’s called beauty sleep for a reason, right?
