If you’ve ever looked at something comfortable hanging in your closet and thought, “I could never wear that somewhere nice,” I want to challenge that. Knowing how to make a casual outfit look dressy is really just about understanding which details to swap. I’m going to show you exactly how I did it with one piece.
The piece is this new scuba jumpsuit from Gibsonlook (currently in new arrivals, and code DOUSED10 saves you 10% off). Scuba fabric is one of those materials that does all the heavy lifting for you. It has a clean, smooth finish that reads polished without any effort, it holds its shape beautifully, and it’s incredibly comfortable to wear. Wide leg, long sleeve, flattering from every angle. When I first put it on, I thought, this could go so many places.
So I tested that theory.
For the daytime look, I kept things relaxed. White sneakers, a quilted crossbody, layered gold necklaces, and oversized sunglasses. The jumpsuit’s clean lines carry the look. It’s the kind of outfit you throw on for a Saturday lunch or a quick errand run that still looks intentional.

For the evening look, I swapped exactly three things: the sneakers for snakeskin loafers, the casual bag for a structured snakeskin mini bag, and I added a belt at the waist to define the silhouette and dress it up. A pearl pendant replaced the layered necklaces. Same jumpsuit. Completely different energy. This is the version I wore to dinner and it felt elevated.

That’s really the whole lesson. When you want to know how to make a casual outfit look dressy, start with your shoes and your bag because those two things communicate the most about where you’re going. Then look at your waist. A belt can take a relaxed silhouette and instantly make it feel intentional and put-together. Finally, your jewelry. Swap something casual for something with a little weight or sparkle and the whole outfit shifts.
The fear of overdressing a comfortable outfit is real, but most of the time, the pieces you reach for on a relaxed day are actually the best starting point for a night out. They fit well, you feel good in them, and all they need are a few smarter accessories to cross the line.

This jumpsuit is a new arrival on Gibsonlook and I can already tell it’s going to be a repeat in my rotation for exactly this reason. Use code DOUSED10 for 10% off when you shop.
Is there a piece in your closet right now that you’ve been keeping strictly casual that might actually have more range than you’re giving it credit for? Let me know in the comments!
