Life Lately May ’25

What I’ve Been Up To

Hi Friends! I hope you had a great month! Here’s what I’ve been up to in May and my life lately.

May was a busy month and kicked off with having a few friends over for the Kentucky Derby. I had a derby-themed spread of Bacon and Benedictine Tea Sandwiches, Deviled Eggs, Pimento Cheese Dip, Bourbon BBQ Meatballs, Fried Chicken, and Party Ribs. And of course, Mint Juleps and Glen Lily’s.

We also went to an Edgar Allen Poe Speakeasy pop-up. It’s an immersive experience that brings four of his most famous stories off the page and onto the stage as told through Poe Historians while pairing them with four classic cocktails.

I love an afternoon tea, and my SIL and I went to a really cute spot for tea this month. What I loved about this tea room was the selection of Bridgerton teas, along with the usual finger sandwiches, scones, macarons, etc.

Mother’s Day weekend, we took a road trip with my mom and pup to visit our daughter and her fiancé, and we had a lovely time! Our daughter’s fiancé’s mom joined us for brunch at one of my favorite brunch spots. We had met his parents briefly last summer, and it was so nice to be able to spend time with her.

Hosting our dinner group was another favorite this month. The weather cooperated, so we were able to sit outside on our deck. My husband made chicken po’ boy sandwiches, cajun coleslaw, and shrimp and andouille sausage skewers with a remoulade sauce, and for a signature cocktail, a cajun Moscow Mule.

Finally, we’ve been having a great time hanging out with my sister and her husband. They flew in last weekend and are here for the rest of the week.

Products I Tried

If you’ve been around here for a while, you already know I’m a big fan of Laura Geller Beauty, especially because the brand celebrates women over 40. They recently sent me the cutest “Over 40 Club” PR box, and it included a few of my longtime favorites: the Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation, the Baked Blush-n-Brighten for the prettiest natural flush, and a new product for me to try, the Translucent Setting Powder. Check out Laura Geller Beauty here.

I shared a goodie box filled with Colleen Rothschild products last month and had to circle back to talk about the Quench & Shine Restorative Hair Mask. It’s a color-safe, nutrient-rich treatment that hydrates, conditions, and strengthens hair. I could tell a difference after one use. It leaves your hair soft and silky without weighing it down.

Everyday Earrings

I’ve mentioned Melinda Maria jewelry before and can’t say enough good things about this brand. Her jewelry is a mix of everyday with a little glam and edge. I’ve been wearing these Julian Soft Chain Hoops daily, and they’ve become my go-to. Check them out here and use my code DOUSEDINPINK for 10% off.

What I’m Watching

I’m late to the game and have been binge-watching Younger. We are also hooked on Your Friends and Neighbors with Jon Hamm. Other than that, we’ve been watching HGTV shows. My favorite right now is Castle Impossible.

What I’m Reading

I’m hosting my book group next month, and we’re reading By Any Other Name. The historical thread follows a woman in 16th-century London who may have been the true author behind Shakespeare’s works, while the present-day storyline follows a modern writer uncovering that mystery.

Switching gears, I’m reading Measure What Matters for work, and it’s surprisingly an easy read. It’s all about OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) and how goal-setting can transform teams and organizations. If you’re into personal growth, leadership, or are looking for a good framework to get focused, it’s worth the read.

We are hooked on Your Friends and Neighbors too. Castle Impossible sounds like my jam. Your month has been so good! Here’s to a great June! I’m actually doing a what’s up Wednesday tomorrow! My first and my two years, lol, this was so much fun!

  10. How strange that Disqus showed up on this post! The Edgar Allen Poe speakeasy would be a lot of fun with friends! And, I would never say no to high tea! I have loved Laura Geller for years. It's just sooo good…I need to get on that PR list (hahaha). We binged "Younger" for weeks. It's good, but there were some times, I was thinking, "Wait, you really believe this 40 year old woman is in her 20s?" But, the idea was a lot of fun.

  12. I love update posts so much, it makes me feel so much more connected to the writer. You've done so many great things that really stood out, of course relationship maintenance is always on my forefront so I was drawn to that. I've always wanted to host a themed Kentucky Derby, all dressed up and all. Hahaha. I love the idea with cocktail hour with the neighbors, that sounds like a blast. I may need to consider that. Loved Younger, and I am adding both of the books you listed for myself for the summer. Thanks.
